Pierre Poilievre takes aim and shoots off his foot
The Conservative leader has an unfortunate habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
This should be Pierre Poilievre’s moment to shine. The government of Canada is doing exactly as he asked — it’s stealing his ideas!
So why, on the eve of the Liberals announcing their own version of “jail-not-bail” do we get a Poilievre interview with friendly internet influencers dredging up old stories of SNC-Lavalin as an excuse to slander the RCMP and scratch the Trudeau-derangement-syndrome itch one more time by saying he should be in jail?
Here, if you missed it, is a summary of what the Liberals announced. I am not convinced it will pass constitutional muster but I think it’s designed to garner widespread public approval. I for one am in favour of not allowing convicted repeat sexual offenders to serve their sentence in the community because too many women end up dead because of that.
We’ll see next week what’s in the bill, when it is tabled. And then we’ll be discussing whether or not it can work, or needs amendments. We’re still missing details, but we’ve all known for a while this announcement was coming. It had been announced publicly.
Poilievre, who I’m sure is at least as informed as I am on political issues, still picked that time to take a big-ass gun, aim it straight at his own foot and fire like some moron who’s new at politics and has no clue what the word “timing” means.
Pierre Poilievre is not new at politics and he’s also not a moron. So why pick this time for this stupid comment about the RCMP that by the way is angering many long-term and prominent members of his own party?
Beats me. But it is leaving his foot soldiers with one hell of a steaming pile of shit to handle. Honourable mention goes to Andrew Scheer for his memorable performance in Not Answering the Question While Looking Mad for Being Asked!
Give the man an Oscar.
And now for something completely different

In the Ottawa Citizen I wrote about affordable beauty and smart urban design and gave a shoutout to this pilot project on Bank Street that gave people things to do and places to sit and be with the community all summer. I also mention this dog fountain park in Toronto that’s worth googling. Anyway, go read the column.
