I don’t know if you saw the story but I nearly fainted with disbelief. It looks like the city of Ottawa might think about considering the possibility of evaluating the options of perhaps allowing adults sometimes and in limited places to drink beer outside.
Gosh.
As I said in my Ottawa Citizen column, in my beloved Huntsville, Alabama, people are already allowed to do that in the “purple cup districts” and there they are, drinking responsibly in cute purple plastic cups and nobody gets in trouble despite the fact that Alabama has permit-less concealed carry and very high rates of gun ownership. People are packing and drinking and behaving like grown adults who know how to conduct themselves in polite company. I’ve never once felt unsafe in that town.
If they can do it in Alabama, what’s our excuse? Ottawa is nothing if not moderate. And we already ignore the current prohibition anyway, because it’s stupid.
So yeah, it’s time.
