Got a note today from the mom of our one our youngest students, a little girl who is testing for her orange belt tomorrow. She was right there at Nationals in May watching my kata competition and cheering me on. She's a very sweet kid. This is what she wrote in her diary for yesterday. She'd gone to circus camp that day before coming to karate and she chose to write about karate not circus camp.
I am thoroughly pleased, and also humbled. It's a wonderful privilege to have the opportunity to help mentor young people and guide them in their learning. This is exactly why I do what I do; why I work on my karate every day and why I spend a fair bit of time helping others learn it.
This warmed my martial artist heart, and I shall smile in my sleep tonight.
