Wouldn’t you like to know what you’re breathing?
My latest column in the Ottawa Citizen series on Healthy City is up, this one about air pollution.
I started out with the idea that air quality would be different across the region. That it would be better in tonier, leafier neighbourhoods and not so good in poorer areas where there are fewer trees. But do you know, data is not collected at the neighbourhood level (oh, there are some satellites doing some measuring and that data is cross-referenced by postal code but good luck getting your hands on it).
I like the Array of Things project they’ve got going in Chicago. Dan Monafu mentioned it to me in interview; it’s something he’d like to see right here in Ottawa. I agree. So I’m going to put this out here: If you’re interested and/or have something useful to suggest or contribute to improve the quality of our environmental data collection in Ottawa, do get in touch.
