Weekly reading and watching list, August 29, 2019
Here is a list of articles I found interesting this week.
From my weekly Netflix file: Blackway. Don’t. I put this on the list because it features Anthony Hopkins and Ray Liotta, and I’ve rarely not enjoyed their movies, but wow, clunker. We finished it and grumbled for hours. Then we moved on to Bullet Head, a story about crooks and fighting dogs featuring John Malkovich, another big-time favourite. Had a heck of a time rating that one. It wasn’t good, but it also wasn’t bad. I’m still debating whether I should ask for a refund on the nearly two hours I spent on it, so maybe don’t bother unless you can’t resist and evil Antonio Banderas in a form-fitting suit and tie. Next one was Law Abiding Citizen with Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. Not for the faint of heart, and you have to jump a few sharks (I have trouble believing one could dig an elaborate tunnel under a prison and never be detected, or rig a cellphone with a bomb without anyone noticing) but what a thriller. After that came The Town, with Ben Affleck, which we enjoyed as it is about bank robbers in Boston and we were just in Boston (I know, not especially deep), then Deepwater Horizon about the explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that made me mad about BP all over again. Finally we started watching Mindhunter, and the first four episodes look like a great deal of fun. But then, I was always a sucker for behavioural analysis.
If you have a fun suggestion for me, let me know!
