  1. Sounds like a way to buy more time, while conveniently mitigating any arguments in the event that temperatures don’t rise or god forbid fall. See this way if the temperatures drop slightly in the short term, they’ll still be able to say they rose more than experts forecasted and the real doom isn’t scheduled to start until 2014. Eventually, they might even adjust their doom-and-gloom predictions for the future, seeing as temperatures are rising faster than experts had predicted.

    You don’t really expect the Susuki’s and the Gore’s of the world to leave this gravy train to chance events like the weather do you.
